Book 4 'A Friend of the Family' - Lisa Jewell

This was a great read - easy to slip into the family and enjoy getting to know all the characters involved. It was also very refreshing and straightforward, I gobbled it up in 3 days! Recommended

Book 3 'The Host' - Stephenie Meyer

A very absorbing book, with layers of interesting detail and exploration of alternative future societies. I really enjoy science fiction ideas and this novel had plenty to keep me turning the pages long into the night. Very different from the 'Twilight' novels and equally as enjoyable, with vivid characters and story arcs. Great read!

Book 2 - 'Winter's Bone' - Daniel Woodrell

A short, but intense novel which I finished very quickly, but then re-read to enjoy the descriptions and language again. The central character is strong and well-drawn and her journey is fascinating and horrifying in turns. Brutal and frozen landscapes are wonderfully pictured for the reader and I look forward to seeing the film version. Recommended

Book 1 - 'One Day' - David Nicholls

First up and a wonderful, heartbreaking story. Funny, frustrating and ultimately sad novel about dealing with friendship, relationships, lost chances and missed opportunities. Beautifully done and the David Nicholls website has the music playlists for readers to enjoy afterwards - I'm still enjoying the tracks and will read this book again - highly recommended, share it with your friends!

Week One

Week 1 - One Day by David Nicholls - bought new but accidently forgotten in a carrier bag! I kept seeing the paperback everywhere for a while and thought about getting it, but something stopped me every time - my unconscious memory was trying to tell me that I already had the book! Once I started reading it I couldn't stop - a wonderfully bittersweet story and I enjoyed every moment of it.

As a big music fan - I particularly enjoyed the playlist on the author's website that accompanies the book, and spent many hours listening to the great mixture of tracks available on the Spotify site. Go on - give both a try I promise you'll be hooked too!
